DigitalOcean is an American cloud provider built around being simple to reason about. Its virtual machines, called Droplets, carry a flat monthly price with the transfer allowance included, which makes a bill easy to predict compared with the large hyperscalers.

What you get

Basic Droplets run on shared CPU with SSD storage and start at half a gigabyte of memory, scaling to eight cores and 16 GB. Beyond plain servers there are managed databases, Kubernetes, object storage and app hosting, all driven from the same control panel and API.

Where it runs

Data centres include New York, San Francisco, Toronto, Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, Bangalore and Singapore, so there is usually a region near your users.
